For the chosen topic, hypertension, a PICO question/statement is developed. The PICOT question format is essentially a reliable formula that is used to develop questions that are researchable and answerable. The question is a single statement that identifies the components of PICOT. According to the Centers for Disease Control (2014), 31 percent, or 67 million persons in the United States have high blood pressure. This indicates how serious the condition really is. A question that is well-built needs to have 4 parts known as PICO which identify the population or patient problem (P); intervention (I); comparison (C), as well as outcomes (O) (Koshar, 2011).
