Universal Design for Learning: Five Ways to Create a Presentation to Remember

Research Paper Instructions:

Instructions

For this assignment, you will create a guide you can share with your peers in this class. Your guide will be called “Five Ways to Create a Presentation to Remember.” Feel free to be creative as you build your guide. There are no right or wrong ideas to include in your guide, and this should be a reflection of what you have learned so far in Section 2 of the course.

Your guide should list five best practices with approximately a half-page description of each one. Be sure to justify each best practice, describing it using scholarly writing by including data, evidence, and supporting sources. In addition, be sure to display your professional writing skills by formatting your guide in a visually appealing way that your audience will enjoy and find easy to follow (APA format is not required for your guide, other than for the format of your sources). Please be sure to cite your sources within the guide that you create. Citations can be done unobtrusively (such as in a smaller font) with the design of your guide in mind.

Length: 2-3 pages, or one trifold brochure, or one visually appealing handout (be creative!)

References: At least 5 scholarly sources are required, with a minimum of 1 source supporting each best practice. Be sure to cite your sources within the guide itself in addition to a reference list.

Your guide should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University's Academic Integrity Policy.

Presentation Guide: Universal Design for Learning
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is commonly used in many academic institutions. The approach aims to meet the learning needs of all the students in a classroom. According to Cook and Rao (2020), a good teacher must carefully plan the lesson to capture all kids’ attention. Using the UDL approach is helpful to all learning of different age groups, including the ones with attention and learning difficulties. UDL requires different tools for it to be successful in a classroom. Below are five tools that can enable UDL to work effectively: -
1 Know your Students’ Strengths and Weaknesses
Each kid in a classroom is unique; hence their learning technique can be different from one another. Some of the techniques can be through repetition, watching YouTube videos, individual reading, working in groups, etc. A teacher has a responsibility to know the strengths and weaknesses of each child they are handling to present the lesson to them perfectly. Identification of students' strengths and weaknesses can be through asking them their preferences (Lohmann et al., 2018). Consulting the student to reveal the method they get to understand better in class can help understand the students. Asking the student can work or not, depending on the situation. In most cases, students will prefer fun learning options instead of what they understand best (Fovet, 2019). Also, observation can be crucial in strengths and weaknesses determination. A teacher must be keen enough to analyze the different children's learning needs. Moreover, an educator should be ready and willing to prepare individual education plans for students with special needs.
2 Use Various Assignment and Content Sharing Options
Once a teacher understands the students' strengths and weaknesses, they can develop different ways of passing the content and the assignments that will help them understand. The different options will help facilitate the understanding of students struggling in particular areas to get a chance to learn through another option. Also, it enables students who learn through reputation to learn various ways until they grasp what they need to learn (Cook & Rao, 2020). For instance, some children can grow their fluency in a reading class by reading aloud in class, while others can be fluent by reading the book several times silently. Moreover, the students can give different assignments to help them follow up and rate their progress (Fovet, 2019). The assessment will enable them to know the specific areas they should emphasize when tutoring the learners. Giving the students learning options facilitates quick understanding and reduces the chances of forgetting whatever they learn (Dazzeo & Rao, 2020).
3 Use digital options
The increasing number of UDL implementing digital materials is impressive. With the current technology, it is easier to find online materials, videos, songs,...
