Soccer, also known as football, is a sport popular in most parts of the world. The game consists of eleven players, ten field players, and a goalkeeper. The outfield players are divided into midfielders, strikers, goalkeepers, and defenders whose sole aim is to shield the goalpost, limit the opposition's opportunities to get into attacking position, regain possession, and prevent the opponent from scoring goals. Strikers create chances to score a goal or forwards. Simultaneously, the goalkeeper or goalie ensures that the opposing team does not score goals.
Each team can name seven substitute players. For the team and individual players to achieve their soccer goals, a coach must mentor and train them based on skill, strengths, and weaknesses. To achieve this, a goal/objective program is designed to guide the coach in their role as the mentor and team leader.
Goal Setting in a Soccer Team Environment
The primary objective in soccer is to emerge the best in a match both individually and as a team by showcasing match playing skills and scoring goals. Individual player's goals must be synchronized with team goals to ensure team objectives are met. Goal setting has been used to enhance team performance in soccer and has an overall positive effect in a team environment (Gillam & Weiler 2013). The framework for goal-setting in a team environment usually comprises three levels: individual, position group, and team level.

1 Setting Smaller Goals

Periodically review the long-term goals, and modify them to reflect your changing priorities and experience.
3 Setting SMART Goals
SMART goals are the most appropriate for team players.
SMART stands for:
• S– Specific (or Significant).
• M– Measurable (or Meaningful).
• A– Attainable (or Action-Oriented).
• R– Relevant (or Rewarding).
• T– Time-bound (or Trackable).
4 Identify the time constraints
Improving the shot percentage will improve? Well-stated goals should be timely.
Set realistic goals, even if more challenging goals, but the key is consistency. Written plans are best to monitor your input; things like journals could be used.
Is achieving long-range goals, you need to use short-range goals. Strategic planning should be your best bet when it comes to goal setting.
5 Set practice and competition goals
The coach and his team need to recognize the importance of useful practice methods. During friendly matches, your goals should show for it. Practice makes perfect. You must not wait till the final game before scoring that goal.
Work ethics and attitude should be maintained according to your goal setting., paying attention to the coach and enthusiastic about the game are essential in sport. Complementing each other and reasonable effort can enhance cohesion among team players and create a favorable environment that enables players to thrive.
6 Make the athlete internalize specific goals.
Accepting and internalizing goals are part of goal setting. The coach should ensure all athletes understand and embrace the set goals wholeheartedly.
Sometimes goals set by coaches are not taken seriously.
7 Sort out personal differences
Coaches should note that individual personality traits differ and can affect the effectiveness of goal-setting. If a player is over-ambitious or has pride issues, it could determine if they personalize the goal or take it to heart. Athletes who are over-ambitious tend to set unrealistic goals and make excuses if their goals are not attained. Task-oriented athletes set goals about trying their best and making self-improvement experiences. They tend to be more successful and confident.
8 Set positive goals instead of opposing plans
Objectives can be either optimistically or pessimistically stated. If possible, set favorable goals by focusing on behaviors that enhance player performance rather than those that destroy it. It can help players put more effort into succeeding rather than fail.
