Consistency in excellent performances often reflects positively on sporting activities’ economic dimension for the individual athletes, their franchises, or even endorsement partners. Sustainability in sporting activities manifests in different forms and takes diverse standards of measurement or assessment. Excellent performance and consistency in the same are mandatory to be deemed successful or receive recognition for a long run of outstanding performance for a given entity, including an individual or a franchise across the diverse sporting activities. Coaches and their approach to coaching the athletes under their care are integral to the achievement of such great fetes that include on-field performance enhancement regimens and the impartation of positive personal, social, and ethical behavior as important life skills. The coaches’ mandates also include facilitating athletes’ social and emotional growth in an environment where they can have a positive sporting experience for long-term participation in a given sporting activity. The successful impartation of the outlined elements on athletes by coaches demands the development and implementation of an effective coaching model built around a set of values and beliefs that define each of the coach’s ideological perception of the sporting activity as the coaching philosophy. Football makes for an excellent example of a sporting activity characterized by different coaching philosophies adopted by equally diverse coaches around the world. Provided herein is a comprehensive evaluation of one of the coaching philosophies embraced by some of the coaches in football, highlighting its unique characteristics and their roles in imparting the outlined positive elements or values on athletes while also reflecting positively on the coaches’ overall performances.
Coaching Philosophy
The socio-economic dimension of sporting activities features unique characteristics that determine the measure of success or framework for assessing a given entity’s performance against sustainability standards. Athletes from different sporting activities, for instance, make for excellent examples of entities in the socio-economic dimension whose ability to withstand the competitiveness of their diverse fields and dominate the same gains recognition as outstanding performances. The athletes’ ability to maintain such excellent performances in the sporting competitions determines or rather dictates how successful they are in the long term. However, the impartation of positive values and beliefs on the athletes by their coaches is integral to determining the degree or extent of success registered by athletes as either individual or collective entities. For instance, successful football coaches are known for their effective decision-making and impartation of sustainable behavior among the athletes under their care that spreads from the latter’s on-field duties to their overall personal development as responsible individuals across the social, political, and economic dimensions. According to Jenny (2013), the framework through which coaches impart their unique set of values and beliefs on their athletes towards achieving the desired outcome is referred to as a coaching philosophy. Such philosophies are characteristic of the coach’s approach to instill their values and beliefs on the players or athletes to get the best out of them during competitions while also enhancing their longevity in the sporting environment by culturing and nurturing responsible personal, social, and ethical behavior. Coaches further use the same coaching frameworks or philosophies to create a positive learning environment and promote social responsibility by providing their athletes with leadership opportunities. Among the coaching philosophies employed by coaches in football include the authoritarian or dictatorial philosophy and the humanistic coaching model CITATION Jen13 \l 1033 (Jenny, 2013). As the term suggests, dictatorial or authoritarian coaching philosophy refers to a unique model of coaching where the coaches impose their values and beliefs on their players without engaging or involving the latter in determining whether or not the said ideologies are effective towards attaining the desired outcome. It is more of a coach-centered approach as they are the ones who determine the values and beliefs to be embraced by the players for the impartation of the coach’s ideological perspective or approach to the game of football. Though it is characteristic of interpersonal communication between the coach and the player, the latter has limited influence on decision-making and may lack joy and satisfaction in discharging their mandates both off and on the fields.
On the other hand, humanistic coaching philosophy is an inclusive framework characterized by interpersonal communication between the coach and the athlete, with both parties involved in the decision-making process at both the individual and collective levels. It is a more effective framework than its authoritative counterpart as it provides an opportunity for the self-actualization of athletes or players for the enhancement of both their physical and mental capabilities towards attaining the desired outcomes across the outlined coaching objectives, including the overall personal development of each of the athletes in a football team. The framework further builds on the establishment of good interpersonal and communication skills between the coach and the players, which creates a conducive atmosphere for personal development of the playing techniques and abilities required for the equally effective discharge of playing duties for individual players across different positions in the field. Thus, humanistic coaching philosophy makes for the preferred coaching framework for a comprehensive evaluation of its underlying values, principles, and beliefs as well as their efficacy in the impartation of the outlined positive values and outcomes on football athletes.
Humanistic Coaching Philosophy
Coaches play a significant role in the creation of a conducive or rather a positive atmosphere for the development of athletes across different elements of given sporting activity CITATION Gra16 \l 1033 (Graham, 2016). Creating and maintaining a positive attitude among players in a football team or any other sporting activity requires the coach to provide positive experiences to the athletes under their care. Humanistic coaching philosophy offers an excellent platform for the creation of such conducive environments that provide positive experiences for football athletes. It is essential to recognize that football is a sporting activity that involves different types of players with unique capabilities suited for the delivery of equally diverse but uniquely important mandates for the team. Therefore, it is important to embrace a coaching approach that allows for the autonomous development of both the physical and mental capacities required for the effective discharge of duties for each playing position. Humanistic coaching philosophy gives room for athletes to actualize their physical and mental potentials as it allows the coaches and the players to tap into the tendency of the latter to achieve self-actualization in their positions of play. An evaluation of the coaching framework through the lens of key elements such as its underlying values and ability to deliver desired outcomes on the athletes showcases its effectiveness in the renowned football sporting activity.

In the spirit of promoting a humanistic coaching philosophy, coaches must ensure that they develop values in the athletes that touch on their personal, social, and ethical behaviors.
