The purpose of the Learner's Log Book (LLB) is to document the achievements of the learner in a central repository that will be considered as evidence on the effectiveness of the learning process. It is a 'monitoring tool' that e-tutors use to report on individual learners' progress and it is a way of ensuring that learners:

ü    Are engaged in their learning process.

ü    They are experimenting by doing the tasks subscribed to them by the e-tutor.

ü    Avoid plagiarism because learners have to be engaged on a continuous basis and the informal assessment can therefore be used to ensure consistency with the main formal assessment.

ü    Provide e-Tutors with the opportunity to get to know the learners evaluate them and mentor them properly.

ü    There are templates which will reflect whether learners read, whether they understand, whether they assimilate the knowledge, whether they develop enquiry ability, whether they have the potential to conduct critical thinking and whether they can reflect on the knowledge accumulated by relating to real situations.

 

The onus is mainly on learners to furnish the required information in the templates after each unit based on the Read and Analyze Activity. After filling the information in the template they need to e-mail it back to the e-Tutor.

 

e-Tutor will then comments on the work done and the involvement that takes place and give overall impressions on the learners at the end of the module.

III. SUMMARY 
Quality can be said to refer to a distinguished character of something. In their article “A comparative analysis of National and regional Quality Awards”, Robert Vokurka, Gary Standing and Jason Brazeal emphasize that quality is what is what gives companies a competitive advantage over others in the industry or sector. In the US, quality standards began to be put in place due to success of Japanese industries, which emphasized on quality as a means of gaining competitive advantage in the first place. Businesses were hence forced to turn to total quality management in order to satisfy customers’ needs and enhance overall performance.
The article (mentioned above) provides analyses of quality awards that include the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award of the United States, the European Quality Award, and the Deming Prize from Japan, the Canadian Quality Award and the Australian Quality Award. It is worth noting that these countries account for about 74% of the world’s gross national product
Overview of the awards
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA)
This was created in the US to promote quality awareness, identify the requirements for quality excellence, and share information about successful quality strategies and benefits. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) currently administer the award
European Quality Award
This is a regional program involving 16 European countries; it came into existence through fourteen major European countries, which formed the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) in 1988 and with the endorsement of the European Commission. Its criteria is comprised of enablers and results i.e. effective implementation of enablers e.g. leadership, policy, and resources impact the results i.e. people satisfaction and business results.
Canadian Quality Award
It was introduced in 1984 as Canada Awards for Business excellence and later revised to reflect the MBNQA concept in 1989.This has been used continuously by the Canadian National quality Institute to honor the practice of quality improvement of Canadian organizations. It relies on a continuous improvement guide entitled The Roadmap to Excellence.
Australian Quality Award
It provides a model certified by the Australian Quality Council, which was formed in 1993 and recognized by the commonwealth government of Australia as the top organization for quality management in Australia.
