Reflection Essay
Stuart Hall's article 'Identification' explores the ambiguities of identification in contemporary discourse. He notes the dichotomy of the concept's recent rise and deconstruction. Hall's identity research is rooted in deconstructionism, which challenges the idea of a fixed, integral, and unified identity. I will use Hall's concept of identity to reflect on my life and how it ties to other course concepts in this reflection essay.
Hall argues that identity is changeable, strategic, and situated, not essentialist. He denies a constant basic identity. He believes identities are produced through discourses, behaviours, and positions. Historical contextualization and transformation, especially in globalization and migration, occur (Hall & Gay 4).
