The researcher noted many burnout mechanisms and recommended solutions based on the factors mentioned earlier. The study employed quantitative and qualitative approaches and involved interviewing and surveying public interest professionals. The article is crucial to this research because it offers a novel model that enables public interest lawyers to forecast and mitigate burnout based on professional and personal risk factors. In this vein, lawyers would be empowered to prolong and preserve their practice. The framework established in this study included seven factors anchored on empirical research linked to burnout and vicarious trauma. Professional factors include the volume of caseloads, solo practice, unfair office practices, and practicing in high-stress environments. The personal factors contributing to public interest lawyers' fatigue include are related to previous trauma history, race, and gender (Simkins, 2023). Therefore, it was established that workload and job demands significantly impact public interest workers’ stress levels. The study also emphasized the value of work control and organizational support in mitigating burnout among public interest professionals. Providing an efficient work environment in terms of supportive management, workmates, and job autonomy can help mitigate burnout among these professionals. Although the author highlighted significant insights in the current research, the study has limitations. The findings do not apply to other sectors because the author primarily focused on the public interest professionals. There are various implications derived from this study, as well as suggestions for further research in the public defense system. First, the government needs to support public defenders and mitigate the risk factors for professionals’ burnout. Some elements that can be manipulated to reduce public defender burnout and improve population experience with the criminal justice system include organizational support, job autonomy, and workload management strategies (Simkins, 2023). More importantly, burnout among public defendants can be mitigated to guarantee equal and fair access to the country’s justice system, irrespective of one’s diversity. In addition, policymakers must provide the legal justice framework impartiality by augmenting public defenders’ wellbeing, thus sustaining a more just as well as equitable community.
