Journal entries (Journal) How has technology transformed how we perceive ourselves, how we perceive others, and how we relate to others?
Other (Not Listed) Instructions:
Using this template, you will be writing two journal entries with eight responses in total. One can be based on the resources shared below. The other you must find on your own. Both entries should address the topic you will explore in your podcast. The left side of your journal must contain at least four events, ideas or quotes from the text. The right side of your journal must comment on each of these four points. Your right side can respond to questions such as: What strikes you about this? What was your first thought when you read/heard/saw this? And then? And then? What does this passage/idea make you think of or remember? Do you want to challenge or qualify this author’s claim? In what ways do you agree with it? Disagree? What else have you read/heard/experienced that connects with this author’s ideas? Does something confuse you or lead to further questions? How do you feel about this? I have included an exemplar of a double-entry journal based on the video "China's 'Social Credit System' Has Caused More Than Just Public Shaming" from Lesson 2. Notice that I have included a citation at the top of my journal. You are required to do this for each of your texts. Double Journal Exemplar When I grade these, I will be looking for detail. The best way to guarantee earning full credit for this assignment is to comment fully on your selections. See the rubric at the below for more detail on assessment. Double Journal Rubric NOTE: Even though you are only required to write two entries, it is expected that you will read/view/listen to many, many more resources during this inquiry. RESOURCES: Antisocial Media: short fiction based on a true story by Kim Z. Dale “Come on. Absolutely everyone does it.” “If absolutely everyone jumped off a bridge does that mean I should too?” “Maybe. If everyone came back from jumping off the bridge alive and uninjured and continued to jump off bridges, sometimes for hours, and they told you that jumping off bridges was a super fun way to stay connected to your friends, particularly for someone like you who never goes out.” “I go out.” “Going to work doesn’t count.” She had no reply to that. “You can always quit, but you should try it at least a little.” “Okay. Fine. I’ll set up account.” “Great.” “I’ll delete it tomorrow.” “If you want.” And that is how, after much cajoling from her bestie, she finally joined the newest social media fad. And she did not delete her account. Instead, she fell down the rabbit hole of obsessive refreshing and too little sleep and dry eyes and constant headaches and meaningless comparisons and OMG KITTENS! and pointless envy and random laughter and occasional tears and hating everyone and wanting them all to love her and the overwhelming loneliness of having too many “friends.” Student Essay - Aidan Saunders-Kong: Education and Access https://sd71(dot)onlinelearningbc(dot)com//content/enforced/27933-ENST122022/Education%20and%20Access.pdf?ou=27933 https://youtu(dot)be/5T1-O6pSSHA https://youtu(dot)be/Czg_9C7gw0o https://youtu(dot)be/kc_Jq42Og7Q https://youtu(dot)be/cQZ0fpLFNVI https://youtu(dot)be/biC1tcNzkWY Suggestions for extension: Watch the movie HER.
