My previous practice setting was a mid-size, 100-bed hospital located in a remote area. Two external factors that influenced curriculum development in the setting are
external financial support for the healthcare system as well as the population’s health needs (Keating, 2018). Nursing programs require financial resources to be self-sufficient, adhere to proposed revisions, and provide learning resources. Major sources of revenue are tuition fees, grants, and state support. Furthermore, understanding the health care system and the health needs of the populace is crucial for effective curriculum development. This understanding ensures that nursing graduates are well-prepared to meet the current and future healthcare demands of the community they serve. Two internal factors that influence curriculum development are institutional mission and faculty expertise (Keating, 2018). The hospital’s mission emphasizes community health and holistic patient care. Medical professionals aim to provide evidence-based and personalized care to patients. Faculty expertise is another critical factor influencing curriculum development in institutions. The hospital lacked advanced practice nurses in specific specialties, and some medical cases were referred to nearby health institutions.
