Different states and health departments in America have their ways of tracking the changes in their sectors. These receive influences from the needs and priorities depending on the demographics. The information that helps understand these changes is in the national health departments and databases (United States Census Bureau, 2010). Statistics Bureau has data about professionals, the communities, and the hospitals. The trends of prevalence bring new ideas that inform the priorities. An example is from the state of Virginia, Alexandria Health Department. Here are a few concerns about its health sector.
The United States Health Department has information about cities. For Alexandria, the latest population census indicates a balanced population distribution across the age groups (United States Census Bureau, 2010). The middle age from 18 years makes the largest percentage of 18, followed by the aged who are over 65 years. The people are from different places like Asia, natives, Latinos and Hawaii. Their incomes are medium with a high education system (United States Census Bureau, 2010). They are in a position to work harder and make their living better. Mostly, their health insurance is affordable, and the people can find some good treatment from their services. These are the characteristics of the people served by the department of health. The population characteristics influence the health priorities in different ways.
The epidemiological data of the people in Alexandria are the determination of the sources and chances of diseases contracted by the people. According to the Department of Health, the people tested are around 99%; cured are almost a third and the rest are under treatment. Most of these are because of the good responses that the health sector has in mind (Ministry of health-Alexandria, 2014). People are aware of the changes they need to have and make in their health conditions. Even so, deaths recorded were below 10% for cases that were beyond the reach of doctors. It may be because of the irresponsibility of the people (Ministry of health-Alexandria, 2014). Without taking care, no doctor will go and fetch the people for tests and treatments.
Priority health concerns are fields a health sector gives priority and much attention. The prevalence of some diseases and infections make the people have these as the likelihood for a change. In Alexandria, the major priorities are in the fields of Zika virus, lead infection, clinical services, administrative services, and epidemiology. They make these counts by promoting the health and well-being of the society.
One of these priorities that the sector focuses on is the consumption of lead. The problem with lead is the dangers it exposes to the nervous systems, the brain, and kidneys that will interfere with the learning and healthy working systems. It gets to the body through inhalation, consumption of lead-contaminated food and cosmetics (City of Alexandria, 2016).
