I can assert that nursing was a more of a calling to me than a decision to make when choosing my career path. In other words, I think that caring for sick people is very natural for me or my second nature because I grew up personally and professionally through my relationship with nursing. After completing my high school. I did not face any career dilemma as the desire and growth to pursing the course was reciprocal unlike the the alternate careers at that time. Up to today, I cannot pretend my life without my profession and that is the core reason I am contemplating to advance my profession to a higher level by applying for the NP graduate program. Currently, I am undertaking I am on BSN program. Therefore, I think that I have good abilities to complete Nurse practitioner program bases on my experience and knowledge acquired during my previous studies in the U.S. and in Medical College in Ukraine.
When I came to the U.S., I didn’t speak English and first of all, I was supposed to take care of my family and work, but I applied all efforts to find the time and was taking, at first ESL classes. Then, I was admitted to the Associate Degree nursing program and received my degree in 2007. The bottom line was to achieve my dream career regardless of all the stumbling blocks standing on my path of success.
Furthermore, I have vast experience in the field as I have been working as a nurse for nine years in the US. Prior to that, I was working in a medical field in my native country Ukraine after completing my studies in medical college. Throughout my working experience and interaction with both doctors and patients, I have seen myself as a most sociable character with the correct personality, social skills, good communication skills and having the correct mental attitude needed in the field of medicine.
In addition I voluntarily worked as a team doctor for my local football club back in Ukraine for a period of 6 months after completing my college education. As far as my contribution in researches and services is concerned, I have spent most of my 9 years in nursing working with doctors while dealing with chronic illnesses and researches in epidemics illness especially on children. Sometimes, I could undertake personal roles such as helping patients with mobility, bathing and reaching the toilets as well as covering night shifts for other colleagues, tasks that were slightly challenging but they were immeasurably fulfilling as I felt that I was doing something of importance.
