Paragraphs

Paragraphs are composed around topics, which naturally and organically emerge from a complex, focused, and sophisticated thesis.

Each paragraph explores one topic and one topic only.

Topics directly relate to the thesis and are not theses in and of themselves.

The paragraph completely and fully develops and explains the topic and provides details, examples, illustrations, and quotations from research as well as from the primary texts.

Topics and paragraphs rise above commonplace thinking and summary.

Quoted material is used powerfully to support analytical points (and not as padding).

There is a graceful transition to the next paragraph.

The ideas explored are significant, substantive, and instructive.

Ideas/topics support the overarching thesis so that the paper is a unified whole, and not a concatenation of appended mini-essays.

Grammar/Mechanics/Style

Grammar refers to the correct usage of Standard American English.

Mechanics refers to idiomatic conventions (capitalization of proper nouns, spelling, and punctuation).

Style refers to persuasiveness, sophistication, wit, and transcendent quality.

Sentences should be varied in length and complexity without loss of clarity or precision of meaning.

Style makes a paper a pleasure to read.

Dilemma in abortion
The dilemma.
Susan was brought up in a Christian family. And going through Sunday school, Ann was taught on what was right and what was wrong. She grew up in a small town where everybody knew everyone and she always cherished the cool sere environment and even wanted to raise her own family in such n community one day. Her parents were so supportive of her; took her to the best schools in the area, ensured she never lacked anything and were always supportive of her in whatever she needed. She finished top of her class in high school and she was admitted to Yale University. She later joined one of the major audit firms for her first job
Apart from her high school and college boyfriends, Ann had never taken seriously the topic of dating. She had always pushed away anyone who seemed so serious as she wanted to get a family when she was 32. By now she has six years to have fun with her friends before she even decided to settle. She concentrated on her work, got promotions, went to vacations when she had the time, bought her parents presents and did anything a single lady of her age could do. She was ready to settle and have children until she felt he was free. Ann worked hard at work and became a manager at the young age of twenty-nine, she created a brand for herself. Although her parents pressurized her on getting married, it all fell on deaf ears as she had already given herself a timeline. Despite all these, there were potentials that Ann had seen, gone for a few dates with, broke up with, but she generally had the fun she wanted and she knew how to make the world her small playground.
When she was thirty, she met decided to seek a job transfer from the city to a small town, near her home town. Although the pay was little, she managed to survive. It was in that year that she met the man of her dreams. Although not perfect, they always tried and found ways to make it work, then got engaged a year later and had their church wedding when she was thirty-two. Marriage life was all Ann wanted but it lacked one thing, children. They tried for so long, went for different tests, but nothing seemed to change. They however never gave up. After trying for so long, she finally got pregnant at the age of forty-five. However, a blood test was done and it concluded that the baby has downs syndrome. The doctors suggested an abortion of the fetus.
Ann had a successful career and wanted to maintain a healthy balance and relationship between her career and the family that seemed like a dream now. Through her Christian upbringing, she knows that abortion is wrong and she is not comfortable with it. She contacts Kevin, one of her college buddies who is a biology professor whose main major is reducing the suffering that humans go through. When asked by Ann is she should carry out an abortion on the fetus with down syndrome, he suggests an abortion and he states that the most important thing on earth is to be happy with lessor no suffering. However, Kevin states that it is she to make the call of whether to carry out an abortion.
According to Kevin, the child will suffer for all their life if he/she is given birth to and Ann will be the sole caretaker, bringing a child to the world knowing that they will suffer will be very immoral. Therefore, there is no need and it is unethical to bring a child in the world knowing the kind of suffering that the child will go through. Therefore, according to Kevin, the most ethical thing is to prevent the child from suffering, by aborting the fetus. However, the Christian upbringing of Ann defies this and she is in a dilemma of to carry the fetus to term, which has been the dream of a who a complete woman is or aborts the fetus to avoid the child from suffering.
Introduction
Ethical dilemmas are byzantine circumstances where a person has to choose an alternative from two choices that conflict and that constitute the sense of what is right and what is wrong. People are faced by these kinds of dilemmas all over the world either personal or professional and are either minor or serious that can negatively impact the person. When faced with dilemmas, people carry out an evaluation for the benefits or the consequences for making a certain decision. Therefore, this essay will analyze the ethical dilemma facing abortion, and the conflicts of the dilemma. Additionally, this paper will also describe an original point of view of the situation, apply the Kant's Categorical Imperative to the case and as well view the dilemma from a Christian point of view. Finally, the two best methods on the dilemma will be picked.
Ethical dilemmas
Abortion is defined as the termination of pregnancy after, accompanied by or resulting in the death of the embryo or fetus, simply, the expulsion of the human fetus (Merriam-Webster, 2015). In the case of Ann, after many trials of trying to get pregnant, she finally receives the good news that makes her heart jump a beat, that she is pregnant. However, once she learns that she is pregnant, she is hit hard once she learns that the fetus will suffer from down syndrome. Not only the doctors but also her college buddy, Kevin, suggest that she carries out an abortion to terminate her pregnancy, however, abortion is the hardest choice a woman can make and Ann is left on her own to make such a decision since she is the one carrying the pregnancy, she is the mother to the unborn fetus. Ann has the choice of having an abortion and waiting to try to get pregnant again or continue carrying the pregnancy to full term and giving birth to a child suffering from down syndrome. The final decisions rest upon Ann to make.
The dilemma, in this case, is that; Ann could choose to carry out an abortion and try to get pregnant once again but this will leave room to many questions that will go unanswered like; “will Ann get another chance to get pregnant” or “how long will it take for Ann to get pregnant again since she had waited for a long time before she gt pregnant”. On the other hand, she also has a dilemma for carrying a pregnancy to full term and delivering a baby with down syndrome. The questions arising from this dilemma include; “will Ann have the ability to balance her grown career with a baby suffering from down syndrome who she needs to take care of all through” and “will she have the ability to have a support system that will not only help her learn more but also aid her in managing a baby suffering from down syndrome?” therefore, to solve this dilemma, Ann has to carry one of the following things listed below;
1 Ann can decide to carry out the abortion with the hope that she will get pregnant again
2 Ann can decide to carry her pregnancy to full term, deliver a child suffering from down syndrome and learn how to manage between her baby and her successful career.
An original point of view
Women carry out abortions because they do not want to face the suffering and pain that comes with taking care of a disabled child, specifically down syndrome. Therefore, when c...
