Fan Fiction and Reflexive Essay
The attempted murder of the city’s wealthiest man and his wife, Thomas, and Martha Wayne, caught everyone’s attention as both the mayor’s office and the police have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. “The couple that is considered the first family of Gotham was walking down one of the alley’s in the city in the company of their son, Bruce Wayne, when they were accosted by a gun trotting thug,” read the news anchor of GNN News as detective James Gordon served himself a bowl of noodles from his kitchen. The young and ambitious detective adored the Wayne family for their philanthropic efforts that have transformed the city including its contribution towards improving the efficiency of the police force through advanced technologies. The sight of the lifeless bodies of Mr. Wayne and his wife as they were being carried on to one of the family’s helicopters to be airlifted to a secure healthcare facility drained Gordon’s appetite as he threw away the bowl and rushed out of the house. It is upon reaching the crime scene that detective James Gordon meets with the distraught Bruce Wayne seated at the back of one of the ambulances. Bruce refuses to speak to any of the police officers at the scene and is covered in a blanket shaking uncontrollably with tears streaming down his cheeks. Detective James Gordon assesses the crime scene and reaches out to Bruce as he tries to console and assure him that he is going to bring his parent’s attackers to justice. “I trust that you will do that detective,” Bruce responds. Finding a breakt6hrough with the young Wayne, Gordon proceeds to ask him what happened during the attack.
Bruce and Gordon have a long exchange over what transpired in the attack and the former reveals to the detective that the Wayne’s family find his record at the precinct impressive and that they have been planning to invite him into the manor for dinner and get to know each other. As Bruce and Gordon are having their conversation the Wayne family’s butler, Alfred appears at the crime scene calling out hysterically, “Master Bruce! Master Bruce!” The butler is relieved to see the young Master Bruce with the detective and embraces him in a fatherly hug with assurances that all is going to be okay. Alfred releases Bruce from the hug and extends his hand to the detective and the two are enjoined in a firm grip as the butler looks straight into Gordon’s eyes and says, “we need to talk.” They both glance at Bruce, who seems to have overcome the shock of the attack, and decide to move out of the kid’s earshot where Alfred streams out a string of instructions to the detective who seems to be surprised with the information being conveyed. Apparently, the Wayne family had been carrying out investigations across their vast business empire and had uncovered a w2ide range of conspiracies that functioned to fuel corruption and crime in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne were trying to find a way to bring the culprits to justice and cleanse their life’s work from the tarnish it had gathered over the years from the unscrupulous dealings of some of the directors who run the Wayne Enterprise research facility at the heart of the city of Gotham. Thomas and Martha Wayne had discovered the infiltration of their enterprise facility by the criminal conglomerate headed by Carmine Falcone. The criminal underground was also on the high alert concerning the Wayne’s’ investigation into their illegal activities and devised contingencies towards ensuring that the family does not interfere with the running of the highly profitable criminal activities. Attempts by the criminal masterminds of the underground world to dissuade the Thomas and Martha Wayne from exposing the illegal activities at the research facility through blackmail and other strategies failed. The criminal underground resorted to murdering the Waynes through a forged mugging attempt that led to the unfolding events at the scene. Alfred was explaining all this to Jim Gordon during their brief talk at the scene and went ahead to tell the detective that Thomas Wayne was anticipating an attack from Gotham’s criminal underground but could not pinpoint...
