AN EVALUATION OF THE MOVIE “COURAGEOUS”
Introduction
Courageous the fourth film produced by Sherwood Pictures, a department of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. The film arouses mixed feelings in the audience in different ways and inspires them through the characters of fathers who have lifelong aspiration of being the best dads for their children. The four characters seem to have one important calling, and this is to “serve and to protect”. Being the police officers, David Thomson, Shane Fuller, Nathan, Hayes and Adam Mitchell are self-assured and remain focused to achieve this mission. Apparently, the men encounter a different nature of challenge that they are not prepared for: fatherhood.
While these men are trying to prove in being smart in their work, they also want to match the same standards as fathers. However, they eventually realise that they cannot be as good, matching work and parenthood. When a calamity hits their homes, the men are left with nothing more than to wrestle with their faith, fears and the challenge of fatherhood. These challenges provide urgency for these men to draw closer to their God as well as to their family. Matching the standards in their profession as well as parenthood is a truly courageous endeavour.
