You’ve learned a lot in the class about the physical, cognitive, and social development of children. Now is your chance to apply that knowledge, and hopefully have some fun doing it. You will be analyzing a video. These videos are family stories filmed by a group of brothers, as told by their nieces and nephews. You have to watch one to really understand.

Go to http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Enter the words “Full House” in the search box.

This should pull up a list of short videos.

Choose one.

Your task for this assignment is to analyze the video you chose and write a 5 page paper describing how it illustrates the physical, cognitive, and social development of ONE of the children in the film. The characters are different ages. Some are preschoolers, some are in early childhood, and some in middle childhood. Do your best to guess the stages of the children based on their appearance.

You do not need to cover every aspect of development the video shows, and the specific themes that you are able to comment on will depend on which video you select, but some topics to consider are:

Moral reasoning

Sex differences

Language development

Logical reasoning

Gross motor skills

Fine motor skills

Peer relations

Family relations

Psychosocial stages

Self-esteem

You do need to say something about physical development, something about cognitive development, and something about social or emotional development. The bulk of your paper should focus on (1) what behaviours the child shows in the video and (2) how these behaviours illustrate their level of development. To do this you will need to both describe the behaviour in the video and talk about specific theories or findings from your textbook. As this is an academic research paper you need to support your observations with references from the textbook. A paper submitted without references will receive a grade of "0".

Please clearly indicate in the 1st paragraph, which episode you are writing about. You are to use headings within the body of your paper.

You are expected to use your textbook and as references (you may use additional sources). You need to submit a reference page and use intext citations within your paper.

Marking Criteria

Your assignments will be graded according to the following criteria:

Clarity and formatting: Is your paper easy to read? Are your ideas easy to understand? Is it in APA format?

Relevance: Is the content of your paper on topic or does it wander?

Accuracy: Do you explain information correctly?

Insight: Do you contribute new ideas or make new connections between pieces of information? Are you able to clearly show the link between what you observe in the video and what you have learned in class?

Find below the name of the textbook to be used for reference

Physical, Cognitive and Social Development
The development of children takes different forms, which are important in enhancing their relationship with the other members of the society. The development of different aspects among children takes different forms, and even levels to reach their full capacity. Each stage of development is characterized by specific traits portrayed by the children, and which show how well they can recognize themselves. In this study, the major focus shall be the analysis of the physical development, cognitive development, as well as the social and the emotional development among children. In order to effectively complete the study, a film, “Full House - Greek Week part”, produced by JV (2017), as a film and animation category. The film will analyze the character of Sylvio, the teenage boy from Greece who had visited the US with his grandparents. In this text, the analysis shall be based on moral reasoning, Language development, Logical reasoning, Family relations as well as the self-esteem of the child. This study will also focus on analyzing the character of Sylvio in the film, determining the suitability of the various analysis aspects mentioned in the above section based on his personal behavior. The film analysis shall focus on the behaviors the child as shown in the video and how these behaviors illustrate their level of development based on their specific theories or findings from the text by Laura E. Berk, Adena B. Meyers.
Analysis of the Moral Reasoning of the Child
Moral reasoning is important in understanding the emotions of other people, as well as the process of decision making among people (Paxton &Greene, 2010). Moral reasoning is based on four major principles, which are important in understanding the behavior traits of an individual. First, there are no specific formulae for determining the morality of an individual based on the things that are permissible and even impermissible in the society. Second, it is good to understand that, some characters cannot be evaluated since individuals make their judgments based on their independent choices. Choices made, as well as judgments are made based on the unconscious intuition of an individual, as well as the conscious reasoning. Finally, many individuals understand that the morality of any individual or activity is based on its completeness (Bucciarelli et al., 2008). Based on the characters of Sylvio in the film, the teenage boy from Greece, his morality directs him to understand the importance of having someone he can love. According to the theory of Erikson’s Psychosocial Stages, teenagers have what is known as the identity versus role confusion, where through exploration, a young individual will then resolve to the formation of a personal identity (Berk& Meyers, 2016). The youngsters, just like Sylvio, are confused about their future adult roles, which they then practice in their teenage stages.
Analysis of the Language Development of the Child
The development of language is important since it helps two or more people to communicate, effectively, efficiently, and without major challenges (Rvachew, 2010). The language development depends on various issues, of importance is the surrounding of the child, where the child grows, and the people who relate to the child. As presented by Laura E. Berk, Adena B. Meyers (2016), the Ecological Systems Theory states that the development of the child is depended on the microsystem, as well as the mesosystem, which then determine how the child relates to the surrounding environment. The language of a child develops slowly, through the imitations of the individuals around. The child will develop the metalinguistic awareness if the individuals around the child use many languages the child can understand. In the video, Sylvio has developed credible multilingual awareness skills, since he is able to speak English and Greek fluently. When he enters the house, he greets everyone in Greek, and then proceeds to the girl, whom he addresses in fluent English, which he had learned earlier (JV, 2017). There are three major theories which explain the issue of language development, which include; learning or the behaviorist theories, biological or the nativist theories, and finally the Interactionist theories (Sommerville, 2006). The Learning or the behaviorist theory focuses on the environment, as discussed above, as a major pillar for the development of the language for any child. The child learns the language based on the language used by the people around him or her.
Analysis of the Logical Reasoning of the Child
The formation of logic depends on various factors. It is important to understand the order in which logic is formed among individuals, and especially children. The logical-reasoning skills of an individual can be improved through learning, and also through the engagements with other individuals who are better in the given area (Dowden, 2018). Logical reasoning enables an individual to und...
