Gardner faces Erik Erikson's Early Adulthood psychological stage challenges in his early thirties throughout the film. The biggest challenge in this stage is building closeness versus solitude. Chris Gardner from "The Pursuit of Happyness" goes through early adulthood developmental crises. These include job progress, financial security, and interpersonal security. Gardner's developmental duties are evident when he is destitute and prepared to steal to feed his kid (Nuryani, 2019). Being a man, he is expected to be the breadwinner of the family, which becomes a massive challenge once he is out of work and homeless. The pressure that is applied to boys and men due to the aspect of masculinity puts a lot of pressure on Gardner, for he needs to provide and protect his family regardless of the situation he is in.
