Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) support the US citizens and offers first response in building, sustaining, and improving capability on preparation, protection response, recovery and mitigation of hazards (FEMA). Working in FEMA provides a great opportunity as the organization has a rich history. In the years 1973- 2003, the organization was an independent agency, and was mandated with coordinating disaster efforts at the federal level. The job requires that one has a Bachelor’s degree and typically requires work experience of 5 years or more in related fields. The organization has the best opportunity among the three job categories.
The career is a good match professionally as one has to liaise with the public, private organization and the government. Designing emergency response plans for state and local governments is just one area where the skills area applicable. Essentially, working for FEMA provides an opportunity to also work in public administration in nonprofit organizations, hospitals and private companies. FEMA has operations across America and had 14, 844 employees as at April 2014 (FEMA, 2014). Since 2003, the organization has been under the Department of Homeland Security, and the organization has since received billions of dollars to assist communities affected by threats of terrorism and disasters (FEMA, 2014).

Working in this segment requires that one has adequate information on the criminal justice, while also helping in rehabilitation of offenders and community safety. The Virginia Department of Corrections is one such organization that employs people intending to work as probation officers and correctional treatment specialists. The main benefit of working in the office is that there is integration of law enforcement and social services. Like other jobs the salary scale depends on qualifications and experience. The Div of Community Corrections under the Virginia Department of Corrections provides opportunities for growth, and one can be stationed at Lynchburg, Hampton and Richmond (VADOC, 2014).
