French Revolution and Ideas of Enlightenment
The era of Enlightenment took place during the eighteenth century. In particular, Enlightenment was the primary cause of distinctive revolutions. The French Revolution was the most closely aligned to the ideas of the Enlightenment, as can be seen in the feudal society, declaration of human rights, and equality.
The feudal society occurred when France overthrew Louis XVI’s absolute monarchy in favor of a republic. The republic highly valued citizens’ rights (Clark, 2018). Although people had rights during the absolute monarchy, they were not protected by the law. Louis XVI administration suppressed numerous rights and privileges that citizens would have enjoyed. However, the Enlightenment led to a new dawn for France when individuals favored the republic.
