Over the years, arts have been valued all over the globe. The main reason is it applies a different range of human activity to create a product that employs imaginative and creative talents that express beauty, proficiency, conceptual ideas, and emotional power. Furthermore, society has valued art since it reflects society and culture, helping people comprehend human beings and how they relate. Even though most countries have employed arts, Australia has greatly employed arts over the years, which has prompted it to have one of the countries with outstanding arts. Since some outstanding arts were developed in the 21st century, it is critical to check the Australian arts leaders and their impacts on Sydney and wider Australia. Arts leaders such as David Walsh, Chrissie Sharp, and Simon Abrahams have greatly impacted the Australian Arts ecology due to their outstanding achievements.
David Dominic Walsh is one of the arts leaders who greatly impacted Australia in the 21st century. As a professional gambler, Walsh earned his fortune by betting on horse races, playing cards, and risking all in the lotteries. One day Walsh succeeded in winning a $60 million lottery in Germany. Varying from most people who could misuse the finances, Walsh decided to invest these wins cautiously by founding the popular Museum of Old and New (MONA), which opened in 2011. This investment made the emergence of many stories regarding the opening of the $55 million which was mainly underground and near Moorilla Estate winery at the edge of the Derwent River near the north of Hobart. His goal was that MONA would survive beyond his lifetime so that he could communicate with his children and grandchildren even after dying. This museum was intended to house his private collection, which was more than $100 million. Furthermore, this museum was the largest private museum in Australia through a country mile. Even though Walsh was self-proclaiming himself as a 'computer geek,' his success resulted from gambling through playing a part in global highly sophisticated gambling syndicates. In addition, he turned out to gloriously be an unexpected arts leader who some people view as perverted while others view as perverse; Willy Wonker for his varying arts. He also highlighted that this was only the start of what he would create since he planned to create a refreshing, albeit confounding, that would bring growth to the Australian art scene.
Over the years, MONA has brought a great transformation in Australia. For example, it has been used to host the annual outdoor museum festival. For example, every January, the MONA FOMA annual music and arts festival is usually held in Tasmania, Australia. Brian Ritchie, a Violent Femmes member, usually curates this event. This event has been billed as the largest contemporary music festival, where different artists in various art forms come to showcase their works. These works include noise, sound, visual art, dance, new media, and performance. Furthermore, there is also Dark MOFO, MONA FOMA winter version conducted in Tasmania. Most of these events happen at night since they celebrate the South Winter Solstice darkness. This event comprises large-scale light installations, musical acts, and a winter feast. Since it has darker themes and pagan influence, it has been successfully aligned with the Tasmanian Gothic Aesthetic in Art and Literature.
Furthermore, despite being in the small city of Hobart, MONA has remained a major tourist attraction. MONA has greatly changed the face of Hobart and how other Australians from other states and territories view Tasmania. One reason is that it has more than 1900 works, making it one of the most popular attractions in Hobart. For example, many visitors are approaching MONA by ferry since they can see the rust and concrete colors from the River Derwent. Furthermore, the other unique feature was that MONA influenced other museums. For example, it influenced other museums to employ a less strict curatorial approach. When MONA was opened, no other museum had its features. Most people highlighted that even the Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney museums did not offer the feeling MONA introduced to Australia. Furthermore, the MONA has also transformed the tourism landscape within Hobart by a huge margin over the past ten years. For example, since its opening, the area has attained outstanding views of the Derwent River. Different people who have been engaged in the hospitality industry since its opening has highlighted that its opening was their turning point for them. Furthermore, most locals have been associating tourism in this region with its opening, significantly boosting the hospitality industry. Walsh was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2016 Australia Day Honor. Chrissie Sharp was another individual who played a huge part in developing Australian Art Ecology. For instance, she made a huge contribution to the Wheeler Center. For example, by 2009, she was dedicated to transforming to see the Center develop. She combined her intelligence, leadership, fierce dedication, and passion for arts to shape the Center. For example, under her direction, the Wheeler Center became an organization with unique features globally since it had a hub dedicated to discussing writing, books, and ideas. She collaborated with Patrons Tony and Maureen Wheeler to bring it to flourishing. She is acknowledged for playing a critical role in the development of Wheeler Center even when it was only a concept. Her great vision, outstanding planning, and hard work were one reason for her success.
Since there was no Wheeler Center in Melbourne during this time, she grew it through the title "Book, writing, and Ideas." In most instances, she emphasized ideas that helped create a solid base that helped the Center grow in Melbourne, thereby solving some of the needs that most people did not recognize existed.
