Marc Zuckerberg
Marc Zuckerberg is an American based software programmer and internet businessman famous for developing the popular social networking platform, Facebook which has grown to be the most successful social platform globally. I agree with his approach towards succeeding in a competitive business environment. Marc’s ambition and determination towards success, is the core driver of his prosperity. His unique approach of focusing on the 4Ps strategy that represents passion, purpose, people, product, and partnerships significantly contributed towards success. His passion for using technology to create a global social network ensured that he overcame the fear of failure and worked towards achieving his dream (Baldonado 41). The vision of making the world more open due to connectivity guided Marc’s development based on the needs of the users, which could only be achieved through the recruitment of quality employees by subjecting applicants to a rigorous hiring process. Since the product is the core aspect of business, Marc believes that a product is never completed and hence subject to continuous improvements towards better service delivery and in turn maintaining relevance at all times (Alshut 3). The simplicity of Facebook is the core reason for its success. The other aspect contributing to the success of Facebook is the appreciation by Marc on the need for mutual partnerships with other partners like Steve Jobs among others, thus increasing the capability of covering own shortcomings from the ideas of others (Fincher). He is always careful to stick to the company mission despite partnerships with other businesses. Comprehensive market research and appreciation of customer feedback enhanced the development of a satisfactory social platform, hence increased customer base, which is a unique approach by Marc.
Marc Zuckerberg is a great leader. He possesses a vision that most would have thought as an impossible dream of achieving an open and connected world. Unlike most entrepreneurs who focus on the profitability of a venture, he focused on his goal and hence pushed himself and his team towards achieving it. While developing Facebook, Marc was willing to get out of his comfort zone and travel across continents to interact with potential clients about his vision which informed him about the needs and thus a means of satisfying them (Baldonado 41). Unlike most leaders who fear to take risks, Marc was involved in newsfeeds and piracy fiascos all with the aim of achieving innovative techniques worth admiring. Presenting himself as a unique young entrepreneur, he never feared to face criticism; with even the release of the flattering movie about his dream, not discouraging him, ironically taking his staff to be screened in the film. To survive in a competitive and dynamic environment, Marc quickly adapts to emerging situations as noted during the time he was facing numerous criticisms over piracy implications, incorporating them into the design of his product (Baldonado 42). Lastly, Marc understands the need to build the right relationships with those who contribute towards the growth of the business, as noted in the movie with the likes of Peter Thiel and Sean Parker who are successful entrepreneurs.
From the film, Peter Thiel, who is the founder of PayPal appears to possess superior leadership qualities than Marc Zuckerberg. His ideology of building a robust culture by balancing between best practices and creativity forms the pillar of his growth and creates excitement which is responsible for long-term endurance. His approach towards marketing and sales is also unique as he focuses on creating impressions and attachment among the clients essential for building long term relations (O’Dea 355). Th...
