Date Philosophy Argument: How Descartes Arrived at Cogito, Ergo Sum Today, in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, people have unprecedented access to information in the history of humankind. According to Bristow (par. 6), this “era is dedicated to human progress through the advancement of natural sciences.” However, access to information alone is not sufficient, especially when everything can be doubted. Thus, the current paper explores how Descartes used his method of doubt to arrive at the dictum cogito, ergo sum (I think, Therefore I am) as means to being utterly certain about things in our world. According to Descartes, there is nothing that people can be entirely sure about, be it religious, mathematical, scientific, or philosophical.
