On the other hand, mandated clients are individuals required to receive services due to legal or court orders, often presenting unique challenges for practitioners as they may not seek services voluntarily (Krase 1:00). Confidentiality is the duty professionals have under the law and ethics to safeguard client privacy and keep any information shared during sessions private unless explicit permission is given or a legal obligation arises (Martin 58). The duty to warn is a legal and ethical obligation for professionals to disclose information when a client poses a significant and immediate risk to others or oneself. The duty to protect involves taking steps to ensure the safety of clients or others at risk, such as initiating involuntary hospitalization (Martin 59). Policies and legislation significantly influence the helping professions by establishing ethical and legal standards that practitioners must follow, protecting clients' rights while safeguarding public safety.
