Hip-Hop is considered an essential section of American-African culture both in the public and private realms. Hip-hop has often been considered a magnificent influence in uplifting America, speaking up for many generations. It also acts as the voice of the voiceless more so the marginalized demography. The hip-hop genre originated mainly in New York City around 1970. It was perceived as a cultural exchange among Caribbean youths, Blacks, and Latinos. In this case, hip-hop has positively influenced society in various ways.
Hip-Hop music has typically influenced society more positively since it supports voiceless individuals. It can bring information or message to the people (Wessel et al. 175). The majority of rappers can use rap songs so that they catalyze more actions of the government to assist the helpless and less fortunate. Rather than creating awareness, they provide support by creating a rap song that works hand in hand with the people's grievances. They support society's priority agendas. Rappers have used these songs to support even non-government organizations in fighting some vices, such as violence and drug abuse.
Hip-hop songs are considered to influence society in various ways positively. Another common reason is that most of these songs are commonly used in therapy programs (Travis et al. 750). Social workers use this particular music to address therapeutic issues. These are mostly used by the youths so that they can typically reflect on their past experiences by connecting with these particular hip-hop lyrics. Various organizations have sprouted to support youths to teach themselves more about music and, in return, distance themselves from criminal activities and violence, among other things (Van 55). Hip-hop music gives these young people more hope and a brighter future.
