It dictates that anyone suspected of having entered the country illegally will be arrested and held in custody (Gonzalez). This has raised an ongoing debate, and advocates for immigration rights are concerned about the possibility of a surge in racial profiling and abuse. However, this law continues to be opposed as three judges disagree concerning the ruling. It had me thinking about the effects of this enforcement both in the short and long term. Despite the law bringing victory in the short term, there are still ongoing battles about its implementation. For instance, the Biden administration and other groups of advocates, including El Paso County, are against it as they point out the state and federal imbalance in immigration policies (Shahshahani 1245).
