In conducting research, it is essential to classify the type of research initially to have a proper direction in information gathering. There are old and new ways to gain knowledge. The ancient forms of knowledge inquisition include obtaining knowledge via authority, tradition, common sense, and intuition, while the new or scientific technique is to conduct research qualitatively or quantitatively. This paper shall compare the methods of knowledge acquisition.
The new methods require validation of truth through thorough investigation. A quantitative method of inquiry generates information by quantifying concepts, opinions, attitudes, and behaviors and transforming these into numerical data that can be analyzed using statistical methods.
