Are green jobs the answer to climate change? Social Sciences Essay

Essay Instructions:

The assignment is to write a short position paper. Drawing from research into one of the key debates about the future of work, you will develop a set of arguments that supports the position you take. This means you will need a clear thesis stating your position and a set of arguments based on evidence you gathered through your research. *This is not a statement of your opinion. Do not think of this paper as a conversation you might have with a friend or relative about your ideas. Instead, you are making a clear case for your position on an issue based on research. If you are not sure whether you are just stating an opinion or making an argument, ask yourself: Have I supported this claim? How? Does the evidence support and strengthen my argument?

Clear and Concise – Please write clearly, avoid jargon, and use the first person. Focused – All parts of the paper should support your overall argument (even discussion of opposing arguments). Remove all unnecessary sentences (ask yourself: does this help me to develop or support my argument? If not, you can probably get rid of it). Well-supported – Arguments need to be supported with evidence (citations to academic literature). Ensure that you refer to AT LEAST 5 sources (beyond course readings). Do not use Wikipedia. You may use newspaper and magazine articles; however, these do not count as academic sources (chapters from academic books or academic journal articles). Structure: A. An introduction to the debate (about one paragraph) B. The statement of your thesis and an outline of the arguments you will make (about one paragraph) C. Your arguments. The number of arguments you choose to make are up to you. However, please ensure you have sufficient evidence to support your claims. Sometimes it is better to make fewer arguments that are stronger, more developed, and better supported by the evidence (3 to 4 pages) D. Conclusion (about one paragraph) E. Literature cited (Works Cited or Bibliography) You are expected to write grammatically and use an accepted referencing system.

Green Jobs are the Answer to Climate Change
Green jobs are decent jobs in any economic sector, including and not limited to agriculture, services, administration, and industry. Thus, I believe that green jobs are the answer to climate change. The activities in green jobs do not engage any operations that could harm the environment. Besides, most of the operations are computerized to the current standards of improved technology. Although transitioning from the traditional ways might be difficult, the realized benefit of saving the world from the severe consequences of climate change is worth every bit of effort made in the process. Also, environmentalists have struggled to try to curb climate change, and any step that would help deal with the issue is significant and should be implemented despite the cost. Venturing into green jobs does not affect the economic value of the expected returns in the workplace. Therefore, green jobs are the answer to climate change, and the current workplaces should consider the practice to ensure environmental protection.
Green jobs are employment places that lead to the preservation and restoration of the environment. According to Rutkowska-Podołowska, Sulich, & Szczygieł (822), they are a modification of the traditional ways to fit into the current requirements of conserving the surrounding, considering the high rates of witnessed climate change. Green jobs also entail emerging sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency (Rutkowska-Podołowska, Sulich, & Szczygieł, 824). The emerging green jobs are a solution to many unemployed individuals who would otherwise indulge in activities that could be detrimental to the environment. Even without being worked on, the creation of jobs is still a step towards environmental pollution. Knowing that most countries worldwide are battling unemployment crises, especially for the youth population, green jobs have influenced the integration of employment programs to minimize the problem and promote further protection of the environment. “One of the examples of such programs is the Danube-Oder-Elbe (DOE) water corridor project” (Rutkowska-Podołowska, Sulich, & Szczygieł, 825) in Europe. The step is made to secure more green employment for the youth in the future, focusing on protecting the environment to minimize climate change ultimately.
The most significant aspect of the relationship between green jobs and the environment is a substantial job creation of decent employment opportunities. While these types of jobs may be the answer to climate change, it is essential to note that every economic sector should work towards creating and eradicating any jobs that could detriment the surrounding. According to Bowen & Kuralbayeva (4), the job market’s green growth policies should focus on fostering economic growth while ensuring that the natural assets engaged continue to protect the environment. The individuals in all economic sectors should understand that we depend on the environment for various things, totalling to livelihood. For instance, green economies are the source of good jobs in good working environments offering excellent salaries, job security, and good working conditions (Bowen & Kuralbayeva, 4). While the economies are promoting the lives of the working individuals, they reduce the chances of environmental pollution since the working environment is conducive to the requirements of the green economies, with all the activities adhering to environmental conservation measures. Although the net economic benefits realized in the process may not meet the expected returns, slowing down climate change is crucial.
However, the plan in the expectations presented by economists is controversial. Although they may be on the verge of acquiring lower profits, they should also consider the environment’s sustainability. Thus, why not venture into a green job? Forstater argues that the price of environmental degradation is much higher than the sacrifice invested in creating green jobs to save the environment from destruction and reduce climate change. Eventually, people, including and not limited to economists, must understand that climate change is mostly triggered by human activities and ensure that whatever they are doing in the name of job creation and promotion does not detriment to the environment (Forstater). Knowing the truth on the relationship between human beings’ activities and the environment encourages them to think and act in a perspective that can eventually conserve the environment they rely on for essentials like habitat. While every individual may be wishing to work for a living, the engagement should always consider the type of job and its re...
