The African American Cultural Group
The African American cultural group is one of the largest minority groups in the U.S. that has faced a lot of stereotyping, especially of men. The stereotyping has affected not only the men but also their families, which has largely contributed to their discrimination. Historically the cultural group has undergone slavery, racism and oppression which even today is a challenge. Henceforth, this paper analyses reasons why the African American cultural group face racism and discrimination among the other cultural groups in America.
Why do African American Cultural groups face Racism and Discrimination?
The question on African American racism is interesting because it’s a challenge that hasn’t been resolved up to date. The cultural group has been under racial segregation and slavery for centuries after being forcibly brought to the united states as slaves in the 17th and 19th centuries. For instance, during the JIM Crow era, black Americans were denied their basic rights such as housing, employment and education, which created a disparity between them and other cultural groups, such as the Native Americans. The impact is still experienced today following systematic racism and unequal treatment since the current policies and practices have racial gaps in resources such as housing, education, employment and the justice system.
The criminal justice system subjects black Americans to high rates of arrest and harsh sentences. Also, the stereotyping perspectives contribute to racial profiling with biased policies that subject African American to unequal opportunities besides being targeted more by law enforcement. Politically, the cultural group has been insufficiently represented hence the lack of fair policies and resource allocation that would empower the communities. Lack of representation undermines the chances to address systematic racism; instead, the bias has been deeply rooted in societal attitudes, with even young children lacking a diverse education curriculum.
Who and where will you go to answer the question?
The research on racial dynamics in terms of discrimination has been under study by various academics, researchers and experts. Hence to better understand why African Americans still face racial discrimination, I would first consult academic scholars such as Dr Kimberle Crenshaw and Dr Ibrahim X. Kendi. Second, I would research from reputable academic institutions that have specialized in studying social inequalities. Dr Crenshaw is a legal scholar, professor and civil rights advocate. She coined the term “in...
