The YMCA of New York City
The YMCA is a charitable organization that is concerned with issues of social justice. The organization has sought to utilize Christian principles in a practical manner through development of programs, which help people to build healthy bodies, minds, and spirits (Reference for Business). The organization measure the impact on the national system through the number of lives that change thanks to the activities of the YMCA. The organization has managed to serve sixteen million people so far, and has changed the lives of at least 57,000 individuals who volunteer to govern YMCA facilities in the nation. The impact has also extended to hundreds of thousands of volunteers and staff members who work for the associations. The organization provides assistance in various sectors, which include financing, accounting, programming, and purchasing. There are six major groups that facilitate operational activities. The groups are the Association Advancement group that deal with advertising, marketing, communications, media and corporate relations, and public policy. The second group is the International Group. The group oversees the incorporation of international education into existing programs and international activities such as training conferences and events, and development and emergency assistance. Third is the Knowledge Management Group which focuses on knowledge dissemination, conduction of research, and maintenance of technological services. Fourth is the leadership Development Group. The docket deals with human resources, staff development and training, and benefits for employees. Next is the Membership and Program Development Group, which provides assistance in the support and development of membership, programs, purchasing, and volunteer short listing and training. The final group is the Organizational and Management Group. The section provides services for consultation for individual YMCA groups across the USA. The group provides staff for four field offices, and provides support for eighteen Management Resource Centers (MRC).
The YMCA has developed an elaborate centralized administration and infrastructural system that ensure 2,227 individual Y organizations provide the public with services and programs. The products have consistent variety and quality (Reference for Business). The main organ does not micro-manage the operations of smaller organizational bodies, which maintain high levels of autonomy. The independent Ys are members of the World Alliance of YMCAs, which has members from 130 nations. Out of all 2,227 organizations, there are 967 main units with 1260 branches. The organizations have a plethora of programs and services for all age groups. Such include fitness and health, day camps, youth sports, child care, GED and job training, counselling for victims of abuse, international exchanges, mentoring, and prevention of substance abuse programs. The organization has managed to develop stable arrays of resources for income, has increased the number of volunteers and clients, and as managed a widespread outreach of programs that reflect the sensitivity the organization upholds on social change. The headquarters of the global YMCA movement are in Geneva, Switzerland (World YMCA). The movement seeks to serve all you, and work with communities to build a more inclusive and just world for young people to enjoy peace and social justice. There are four areas the organization targets to impact the community. The areas are health, employment, civic engagement, and environment. The organization believes young people possess great potential, which individuals become unable to tap into because of uncertain futures and tough challenges. YMCA works with the main stakeholders to support and facilitate centers that will provide opportunities and safe spaces for the youth to build their skills and knowledge, discover individual purpose and identity, and facilitate active participation in transformation of communities. The organization targets areas of health by helping the youth to access quality health services and education for improvement of holistic general wellness. In addition, the association helps the group to access opportunities and job training to achieve individual and family security and stability. The empowerment also occurs in the sectors of advocacy and civic action, youth justice, development of leadership, and gender equality. Finally, the association empowers the youth to contribute to, and advocate for a decrease in environmental degradation.
The YMCA of New York City has made important contribution to the society. The organization was founded in 1852 with the aim of creating a haven that serves the young population, which comes to the city to search for a better life (YMCA 3). The organization institutes services and programs at twenty-four branches, which enable at least half a million people to learn and develop. The vision of YMCA is to engage active New Yorkers in the building of stronger communities, and to improve health, provide youth empowerment, and strengthen the community for all New Yorkers. The main goals are to expand services to reach out to more youth, develop new partnerships for promotion of health, and to foster connections that will strengthen the community. The organization has laid down a strategic and incremental plan that emphasizes on provision of service to the city in a more effective and efficient manner, and the use of technology to enable the community to engage with the organization in a better manner. Core values include respect, honesty, responsibility, and being caring. The mission and vision embody the principles, and reaffirm the commitment to the city, while placing focus on work areas where the expertise and strengths we possess align with pressing needs in the city.
The activities the organization conducts fall into three categories. The first category focuses on youth empowerment. The organization recognizes that the world has become more competitive, and the young population confronts increased steep odds in an effort to achieve success in the future (YMCA 3).The organization also offers support to the group from infancy to young adulthood through the provision of various programs that families of all income levels can access to help the youth attain their potential. Youth services provide the best programs because of a wide outreach across the city, and proper establishment in the community through history. The goals of the agenda are to ensure teens are ready for college and careers, to be able to serve a tenth of the youth in the community by 2025, and to enable children to develop skills to use in the community, leadership, and life. The program will be successful based on five standards. The standards are the percentage of participants who improve in the social-emotional skills the program targets, the percentage that graduates from high school, the amount of participants who receive placement in college and careers, the number the organization employs, and the percentage that receive service from the organization.
