Thinking Like a Mountain
Thinking like a mountain is a story by Aldo Leopold in which he articulates the importance of wolves to the mountain environment. A deep chesty wolf brawl sets off the narration as hearers of the brawl perceive the wolf differently. The farmer feels that it's a threat, the deer is scared, and the hunter perceives the wolf as a competitor. However, the three of them are wrong, except the mountain that has been alive long enough to understand the importance of the wolf in the ecosystem. Only the mountain understands that without the wolf, there would be an overpopulation of deers who would devour all vegetation and leave the mountain barren.
