The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall
The Katherine porter’s story the jilting of granny weather all is not just a tale about an eighty-year-old woman on her deathbed (Barnet, 124). The author, tells of an old woman lying on a death bed reflecting back on her life as the family, priest and the physician gather around her in order to spend with the granny her last moments. Through the flash backs and the narration of the grandmother paints the picture of a strong and independent woman who has stood against all the odds despite all the hurting experiences of her life.
From the narration of the granny, we learn that she is hardworking yet stubborn. She is also procrastinating. Though she confesses that she felt the death, she did not expect it. When she was on her sixties is when she expected to die. Her father’s death jilted her further. Because of her survival on various sicknesses, she did not believe on medicine and doctors. As she narrates the story, she depicts the picture of how strong she was. Perhaps her children would describe her as weak, old and fragile.
She further confesses that through her obstacles and hardships, she would not have made it with out the help of God. She was a catholic. Father Connelly also visits her in her last moments an indication that she had faith. Form her bed the rosary falls and Lydia hands her t...
