Following the naming of the recreation center at St. Louis University’s campus as an Athletic Business Facility of Merit® in 1982, a new concept of establishing a facility primarily meant for recreation was born (Attwood np). After more than 40 years, modern universities in the United States are yet to identify the value of recreation centers as a critical for recruiting students. However, a few examples such as the University of South Carolina Aiken’s Wellness Center and Penn State’s IM Building have embraced this decades impression (Hartman np).
