Should American Colleges Use the Grade Scale or the Pass-Fail Scale?
A study conducted by Edward J. Volpintesta reveals that the pass-fail scale is more effective and has a lot more positive impacts on the stress, group cohesion and mood of students than the grade scale. Students graded through this system show more interest in studies than those whose skills and capabilities are judged based on the grade scale. All over the United States, colleges set their own grades (A, B, C, D, and F) depending on how academic heads want to take their students forward (Volpintesta 8). This kind of system is considered complicated and out of context, as many students fail to get the desired grade even when they have had worked hard and studied overnight. For example, if the A grade is given to a student who gets at least 80 percent marks, then anyone who has received 79.99 percent marks will be given either a B grade or a B+, and this can impact the student’s entire academic career. For example, mathematics deems to be a tough subject to some American students, while the others may face difficulties while memorizing theories of physics and chemistry. Seeing evidence of your competency is a subject or t...
