The Canadian Vast Lake guarded by the indigenous community is the first Biosphere Reserve by Unesco according to Peter Kujawiniski. The indigenous community guards the lake as if it was humanity’s last drop of hope. This is due to historical, prophetic, practical and cultural reasons.
Culturally, the lake is considered a living thing. It is a source of food and water. It is also a habitat for aquatic life. They protect the lake to owner their ancestors. To preserve culture, North Slavey language is taught in primary and High schools. Prophetically, the lake has a powerful force for the existence of humanity. It was prophesized that a time will come when the lake will be the only refuge for humanity in terms of food and water. People will travel from a far to look for the lake. The recent changes in climate show that the prophesy might come to pass earlier than expected.
