Is it true that no effort is needed that is why people will choose lust over love? Love is strong forces that bring strangers together, creating sheer joy, but under certain circumstances, love causes more sorry than joy. The main idea that is central to Like water for chocolate is to understand the nature of love and lust and how the two are different. Laura Esquivel talks about Tita and Pedro's love and their lustful wishes. Tita is the main character used throughout the novel to present lust and romantic love. Even though Tita and Pedro develop lustful wishes, love overcomes lust because love is strong enough to light the matchbox within the characters.
To understand the nature of love, Laura presents Tita and Pedro as true lovers. The story is developed to assess the truth about lust over love that creates tension among the character and presenting Tita's inner conflicts. Even though romantic love is exalted throughout the story, tradition is used as an excuse to limit the two lovers from fulfilling their dreams. In the beginning, the story presents how Tita fell in love with Pedro; she approaches her mother to request her to review their family tradition. Tito's mother punishes her; she is forbidden to speak about her desires. According to family tradition, Pedro should marry Rosaura, not Tita.
