The Tacoma Times newspaper from Tuesday, February 05, 1918 offers the reader an interesting start with the header that states, ‘Great Air Victory!’ CITATION The18 \l 1033 (The Tacoma Times). The sidebar banners and top navigation briefly illustrate the header. They indicate the reason for the victory as being the, ’13 German Planes Brought Down; Allies Win’. The paper utilizes the grid-based layout design which makes it well organized, clean and easy to navigate through. Also, the paper contains several sub-headings that make it easy to follow through the titles. Moreover, the sub-headings closely relate to the main header giving the reader a clue of what to expect in the entire paper. Thus, it is elaborative in nature. The header did capture my attention. I was keen to read and know what the victory was about and how the thirteen German planes were brought down. I was eager to know the tactic used and how the U.S army and allies fought the Germans to gain victory.
The paper is rich in content with an explicit explanation of each subtitle. For instance, it gives details of the thirteen destroyed airplanes. “Eight German airplanes were completely destroyed and five others brought flaming to earth by French aviators.” Further, the paper illustrates whether that incidence was officially announced or not. On another sub-title, it states, “U.S. Men Fight off Six Raids.” Underneath, it explains, “With the American Army in France, repeated German attempts to raid American front today were defeated by crushing barrages from the Yankee artillery.” A high percentage of the content on t...
