In August: Osage County film, Beverly, a Weston family patriarch, is evidently struggling. He is drunk in the middle of the day and his home is a mess. He interviews Johnna for a job to look after his wife, Violet. The latter’s addictions, according to Beverly, “have over time made the maintenance of the traditional American routine burdensome.” He quotes Eliot T.S. that “life is very long” (Letts, 2010). The obsession with this quote allows the audience to understand how Beverly sees his own life. For example, he considers it unavoidable and interminable and demonstrates that he feels sick about it. Beverly is able to convey his emotions about life by citing T.S. Eliot.
