Current Event Annotation: Climate Change
Two separate analyses by NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in a news report by Fountain and Popovich about global climate change are insightful and menacing. According to report, 2019 marked second-hottest year (ever) next to 2016, capping a decade of warmest climate compared to mid-20th century. Temperature in 2019 is shown, in report, to rise 1°C (1.8 °F) higher compared to mid-20th century average and, more importantly, consistently so every decade on. This climate change, also noted in extreme low weather in some regions, has had considerable, negative impact in world regions as diverse as Australia, Alaska and Southern Africa including, but not limited to, wild fires, thawing of permafrost, and shortage in food production due to drought, respectively.
