Before reading the RCL materials, it was not apparent how important it is to prioritize statements in the resume so that the most relevant to the job vacancy come first. It involves prioritizing the achievement statements to stress the required experience over others. In situations where one has minimal experience in the sought for position, it is crucial to portray expert orientation. It creates the impression that the required skills and experiences were among primary responsibilities in the previous positions. It is also beneficial to have learnt that one must select the aspects of achievements that relate to the job objective. In accomplishing this, one requires leaving out irrelevant information about skills and experiences, and only focusing on those relevant to the position. For instance, a horticulturist seeking a travel advisor position would downplay their scientific knowledge and accentuate their passion for listening and answering customers’ questions.
It is also helpful to underscore how imperative it is to use more generic terminology to talk down the differences and emphasize the similarities between the previous position and the current job objective. It can be accomplished by identifying the common denominators between the previous and targeted job position.
