Compare and contrast Camus’ fictional depiction of the plague in Oran to your sense of the coronavirus pandemic. Are there similarities with regard to reactions (by individuals, groups, or leaders) to an unforeseen epidemic/pandemic? Has the current pandemic revealed aspects of human nature that differ from Camus’ depiction? Is the novel’s sense of morality like or unlike what you perceive now?

One similarity between the COVID-19 pandemic and the plague of Oran is how people have acted on such. It was mentioned by the book that during the plague, the people abandoned the streets, and some wear handkerchiefs that can cover their mouths, and people are separated from each other (Lauzanne p. 15). Today, different government units around the globe have imposed strict lockdowns and quarantine measures prohibiting people from going out of their homes, as well as the observance of social distancing. Also, for those who will be going out, they have to wear face masks to prevent infection spread.
