The myth of the wild west concerning cowboys involved portraying them as individuals with great heroic qualities and often engaging in gunfights, having tamed wild horses and engaging in rather exciting adventures. The reality was that the daily life of cowboys was rather monotonous. They spent most of their days herding cattle and carrying out other tasks relating to the management of livestock. The myth regarding ranchers involved representing them as affluent individuals owning large tracks of land. The rancher was also presented as owners of luxury houses. The reality was quite different. Although some of the ranchers were wealthy, most of them lived modestly. Women in the mining towns were mainly presented as virtuous persons on the one hand, and others were presented as salon girls/ prostitutes on the other hand. The reality was that women living in mining towns were diverse. Some took formal jobs, such as nurses and teachers, while others stayed home. It is worth noting that some were salon workers while still, others were prostitutes. The other myth regards showing that women did not have roles in the cattle range. In reality, however, women played various roles in the cattle range. These included cooking, cleaning laundry, or even helping with ranching activities.
