The Change in the Role of Women throughout the 18th Century
In the early 18th century women were looked down upon as agents ofcleaning and largely as weaker creature while at the same time society considered them to be inferior as compared to men. They had specific roles in the society like cooking, cleaning, looking after kids (Finberg 194).
Back in the 18th century most people lived upcountry. Women took care of poultry, milking, brewing beer, making chees and butter, they also made wool into thread. They made family clothing and mend them whenever it was necessary. It was also there responsibility to make household effects that included candles and soap.
Women made home remedies as they were expected to be family doctors. They gave home based care to the sick, they cultivated herbs and knew there uses for treating several diseases. They were also ‘orthopedicians` as they were also expected to set fractured bonesThe family was there responsibility as they were often left in charge.
