Student Name Professor Course Date Anesthesiology: The Silent Force of Patient Care One of the most relevant and complicated fields of healthcare is anesthesiology. Surgery and most medical procedures would not exist without the efforts of the anesthesiologists who ensure the patient remains in a safe location, remains stable, and in pain. Therefore, the anesthesiology field of work is extremely important to healthcare, as an anesthesiologist protects the lives of patients who are exposed to grave risks and liability when they are being operated on. An anesthesiologist's care of the patient is much more than just helping the patient get to sleep. They examine patients, create anesthesia plans, and control airways and vital signs in the operating room, and also control pain post-surgery. They also find application in trauma and critical care units as well as in pain clinics. They have been termed the “silent force behind the scenes” due to the pressure they bear of ensuring the patient is safe whilst the surgeon attends to the operation (Attri et al., 294). Their expertise is a combination of medicine, tech, and teamwork. I got interested in anesthesiology when I observed a surgery of one of my relatives. Although I primarily watched the surgeon, I also observed the anesthesiologist preparing medications, checking on the patient and keeping close during the procedure.
