It is a dynamic process that involves an array of social practices (embodied and verbal) through which caregivers mediate community-relevant ways of interpreting and expressing emotions (Cekaite and Ekstrцm 1546). Medical students who handle cadavers as part of the learning process experience a form of emotional socialization based on cadaver stories, as documented by Hafferty. The current paper is a reaction to reading Hafferty's work: Cadaver Stories and the Emotional Socialization of Medical Students.

Cadaver stories are narratives that describe jokes played by medical students on each other or lay individuals (Hafferty 348).
