THE LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT IN BIM
Building Information Modeling (BIM) has brought tremendous change in the structural engineering field like no other technology has ever done. BIM can be described as the representation of physical and functional characteristics of a structure. The model is used as a source of information about the structure. It becomes the reliable basis for the decision-making during the entire development process. Therefore, the BIM is requiring project owners and contractors to be flexible as the project evolves. The demand of the BIM innovations has increased with the building officials perceiving it as a deliverable for examining code automatically. BIM has evolved with time from 2D to 3D. This highlights the significance of introducing and defining the level of development (LOD). LOD is significant in that it gives different firms to clearly define the level they choose to develop. The paper will address the concept of LOD and its background.
LOD describes the level of completeness of a model in the document AIA E202. It applies to individual model elements rather than the entire model.
