Chinese Dumpling, a symbol of the Chinese
New year! And yet the skies aren’t lit with fire crackers and fireworks here in America. Oh, that’s right, the date of Chinese New Year is different from here in the west. Oh, how I miss going home and spending this time with the people that I value most. I remember that usually during this time of the year, I would have been at home with my family, making a really huge number of Chinese dumplings to share and eat with the members of the nuclear and extended family and greet the new year with a smile on our faces and hopes in our hearts.
Chinese New Year is a celebration of thanksgiving and joy that is to be celebrated with the family. It is a time to be with your loved ones in order to share a feast together and thank the abundance that life has to offer us. This catered to all the preferences of the family members. I remember that my grandma loved boiled dumpling so much because she had few teeth left at her very old age and those kinds of dumplings were always the softest. However, even if she had few teeth left, she left a big influence on our hearts because of her smile whenever she ate her favorite dumplings. This was a precious moment of all my Chinese New Year experiences back in my hometown.
The design and the cooking method of the Chinese dumpling reflects an expression of the Chinese aspirations and hope for a prosperous life within the self and thy community. My grandfather, a businessman, would always look to his favorite local restaurant whenever there were big events, aside from New year, that came up, to order the famous dimsum platter with different types of Chinese dumplings arranged in an artistic way. The different colors of the dumplings enhanced the vibrancy of the occasions themselves. It amplified the feeling ...
