From the biennial Strategic Action Plans 2010-2012 and 2013-2014, it is clear that Century College’s area of focus is making education accessible and affordable to many people, maintaining high educational standards, and helping graduate students succeed in their careers. The college has strived to achieve these goals by partnering with high schools through its K-12 programs to increase access and enrollment opportunities to high school students, by using a variety of assessment tools to measure student achievement and promote accountability, and through job placement programs for graduate students. Despite realizing significant achievements in this regard, however, there are other equally important areas that the college’s administration can pursue to increase its diversity and produce graduates who are well-rooted in intellectual abilities, spiritual well-being, and physical health. Towards this end, there is need for Century College to increase admission of international students and promote healthy lifestyles among the student fraternity and the local community.
One area that needs improvement is in the admission rate of international students. Higher education is becoming increasingly global in terms of the diversity of courses offered in colleges and universities, and the increase of foreign students in internationally recognized institutions of higher learning. To be strategically positioned as a leader in higher education, Century College needs to adopt a policy that will expand the population of foreign students in its campuses. While current demographics show that the college caters to students from diverse backgrounds, majority are Americans (for example African/Americans constitute the bulk of students of color). According to the 2010 intake statistics, White or Caucasian students are the majority, constituting 68 percent of the student population. Hispanics accounted for 3 percent, while Black or African Americans constituted 13 percent.
