Owning a cellphone at a young age had significance in the development of my intelligence. However, having a phone also promoted various negative behaviors that affected my life in many ways. In light of this experience, it is no doubt that cellphone use had its merits and demerits. In fifth grade, owning a Samsung phone was astonishing and highly prestigious. As a child, I wanted to tell all my friends about my phone, and sometimes I was tempted to carry it to school. These desires landed me in trouble since it was against school rules to use the cell phone in class. My concentration was affected since I was overly excited about communicating with my friends. Moreover, using the phone at home hindered me from finishing my assignments on time. These destructions had adverse effects on my academic performance.
Furthermore, using the cell phone consumed my valuable time that could otherwise be directed towards academics. I was also disconnected from my family since most of my time was spent using my phone. For instance, there are times when I argue with my mum over my phone. I also found no value in socializing with friends and family since I could call and send messages. My phone consumed me to an extent where I could skip meals and not sleep at all. Late-night texting consumed most of my sleeping time and was hazardous to my health. My health deteriorated, and productivity was limited due to tiredness and lack of time. Furthermore, growing up, I developed several eye problems attributed to the many hours spent by the phone. Lack of socialization also led to an introverted personality and a lack of courage of expression in social gatherings.
Besides the several demerits that I experienced using the cell phone, it was also practical and advantageous. The cell phone helped to improve my intelligence since I was continually using numbers. Furthermore, owning a phone made me fit among my peers, which boosted my self-esteem. I was able to make new friends and interact with people from different places.
