Performing Arts Essay: Reflection and Appreciation of Classical Music

Essay Instructions:

One of the course objectives is “to enhance appreciation of classical music.” Your end-of-term written assignment (approximately 500-600 words, typewritten) is to reflect upon what you have learned about music—and about classical music—and to examine how that knowledge has helped you gain an appreciation of classical music.

You may select a movement from a classical work not covered in class, or you may select a work we covered in class. Pick a piece that you especially like, or that you find moving or memorable. Consider the piece in light of what you have learned in your studies. Examine or re-examine the work, and analyze a portion of the movement to demonstrate aspects of the knowledge you have gained in your studies.

Has the knowledge you have gained enhanced your appreciation of classical music? Has it changed your view of classical music? Do you hear music differently as a result?

The End-of-Term Written Assignment is due: 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, December 08.

Reflection and Appreciation of Classical Music

I find classical music meditative, and there is no doubt that it gives me mental clarity, which helps me focus better on tasks. In this paper, I will discuss what I have learned about music and how it has shaped my appreciation of classical music.
There are different movements in classical music. The second movement is my choice because of its song-like and cheerful theme. (Kramer, Pg. 23). Additionally, I find its flow of musical notes mesmerizing. 'Anything' by Ludovico Einaudi is a second movement piece from the Romantic Period that I find moving and memorable. The slow and lyrical work helps me relax, cool down, and reflect on my past unique experiences.
Since I joined classical music studies, I attest that my state of mind has positively changed because I can internalize my past achievements and failures and the lessons that I learned from them (Dillman et al., Pg. 338). By listening to Einaudi's calm and lyrical prowess, I get a perfect style to relax and wide up my days. I now enjoy and internalize classical music more than I did before I joined music classes.
Throughout the semester, we were taught how ...
