ANALYZING A CHILD’S HOUSE-TREE-PERSON (HTP) Student’s Name Institution of Affiliation Course Instructor Date Introduction The House-Tree-Person (HTP) projective test is another test among thousands of psychological tests employed in psychological assessment in order to get some idea of a child's psychological development. According to Brennan (2024), the technique was introduced in 1948 by John Buck, and it is based on the belief that an individual could be able to express their thoughts, feelings, or conflicts through drawings. The child is requested to make a house, a tree, and a person; all of them represent entirely various spheres of the child's psychological state. The house in the picture refers to the child's home environment, the tree- growth and self-image, and the person relates to the relationship or self. In this paper, the researcher will focus only on the assessment of one HTP drawing to examine emotional well-being with a view of having the various aspects considered from the psychological perspective. House Analysis The house depicted in the picture is described as being red, with the door being painted yellow and the roof converged at a diagonal angle. In HTP interpretations, houses represent the child's attitude towards their family and the home environment. An intrusion of bright colors in this house, especially red, may point towards affection to the house, possibly representing heat, love, or energy in the family. For instance, in children's drawing work, the principal color, such as red and yellow, demonstrates emotions such as joy, enthusiasm, or energy, as noted by Mayar et al. (2022). Yellow typically radiates comfort; thus, the door painted yellow may suggest comfort or even a conducive environment that may mean that the child is comfortable at home. Yet, the house's somewhat isolated location on the left corner of the drawing might indicate feelings of loneliness or rejection. Placement on the page is viewed as hugely influential in the analysis of projective drawings; objects placed to the extreme left are considered evidence of a preoccupation with past or unconscious worries (Summers, 2024). It can be especially seen that there are not many detailed Windows or surroundings, which might have a meaning of a closed home life. It is also important to note that the tree was not rooted the ground implying that they had a little disconnection with the general environment. All these together could imply that although the child may appear to have emotional security, they might also lack social relatedness at home. Tree Analysis In the frames of the HTP test, trees are usually interpreted as a sign of self and individual development. In this drawing, there are two big trees, which also show the thickness of the stem and the green density of the foliage.
