The speech was composed of Tony Blair’s gratitude towards the figures behind the achievement of their goals. He presented certain names that served as key figures for building the organization, Labour Party, and motivating its members to pursue their ideals. He also briefly stated how hard the opposition was and how long it took for them to achieve it. Lastly, he also briefly stated their Party’s goals in forming a new and improved country of Britain. He also disclosed that even if their image would not be the highest out of all countries, they would still present a country that is made only with the best ingredients.

The purpose of the speech was to firstly express their gratitude towards the support given to them by the British people. Blair also expressed his appreciation of the founding figures of their party and how their ideas were formed. Second, would be the presentation of how they would change life in Britain and their future accomplishments. The speech also presented specific adjectives that center their goals and purpose of running as a powerful force for the people. Lastly, they also stated how the opposition was given to them ever since they started to take a step for their purpose. And even in the latter part of the speech, Blair stated a rather interesting and meaningful throw to the government.

Depending on the perspective of a person, there can be many different meanings formed in the speech of Tony Blair, the new Prime Minister. He stated, “I believe in Britain. I believe in the British people. One cross on the ballot paper. One nation was reborn.” (Blair 1997, para. 1). This implies that even the simple act of voting or crossing out a name on a ballot could change the entire flow of its environment. This could represent the idea that for there to have “change”, people first need to take action. Another would be the statement “They’re not in the habit of calling anything a good idea, which given the last 18 years is hardly surprising.” (Blair 1997, para. 5). The words Blair stated in this quote seem to represent “mocking” of how the government opposes ideas, without knowing whether it is good or bad. It is like a call out to the government that even though they oppose, but if the people want to, their opinions matter more.

In general, the construction of the speech was well maintained, as well as the contents of it. In terms of the presentation of the future accomplishments of the party, it was made with utmost sincerity and the thought of the people. It addresses issues and presents solutions that could be done for it to be prevented. On the other hand, it was rather interesting and captivating as there are times where the speech creates various meanings to different perspectives. Overall, the speech was effective as the audience listens and learns from the words of Tony Blair.

In the statement, “I should also say a final word of thanks to the Tory Party. Let’s be honest, we’d never have done so well without them.” (Blair 1997, para. 4). This could imply that Tony Blair and the Labour Patry had supporting Parties that more solidified their foundation as a spearhead of change in the country of Britain. Another would be, “Sorry – ‘Sir’ Brian Mawhinney - knighted for services to the Conservative Party.” (Blair 1997, para. 4) which could imply sportsmanship between the two opposing parties during the election. With these statements, the idea of having a deep conflict between different parties is being redirected to a more positive perspective.
